If you wanted to get a phone that do not break your bank and not entirely ready to give up on specs, the Nokia Lumia 620 might just be the answer. Well, the only thing you have to give in is that the Lumia 620 is running Windows Phone 8 OS. We are not saying that the WP8 is not a good OS, just that more people will be expecting an Android device and this will be a disappointment. WP8 is a very solid and gracefully simple OS a mobile device can have. The only downside of it is that it is not yet matured enough to compete with the likes of Androids and iOS in terms of their solid ecosystem and the amount of apps available for these platforms.
Apart from that, the Nokia Lumia 620 is a brilliant phone as far as value for money is concern. For just RM799, features a 3.8inch ClearBlack screen with 246 ppi, 7 interchangeable back covers to suit your moods everyday, 1GHz dual-core Snapdragon s4 processor with 512MB RAM together with 8GB onboard storage capacity expandable to 64GB via microSD card. Surprisingly, it also offers NFC (you dont really need it but some just likes it to be there) alongside with the 5MP camera with 720p video.
For RM799, the specs above are considered very good and could be a very good choice of a mid level smartphone despite the lack of LTE support and running WP8 (We honestly dont think WP8 is a con for this phone but we think most people do. If you do, you suck! =D). If Nokia is not for you, HTC offers a device, HTC 8S, almost similar to the Lumia 620 but with a larger 4inch display might get some of your attention. But well, it is not so worth your money priced at RM999 but it might look more stylish and slimmer.
Digi will be among the first to offer the new Windows Phone from Nokia which are the Nokia Lumia 920 and Lumia 820. Both these devices runs Windows Phone 8 which is a very promising mobile OS but only time will tell how successful it will become. The Nokia Lumia 920 and Lumia 820 are targeted to compete with the likes of HTC’s flagship Windows Phone, the Windows Phone 8X and the Samsung’s Samsung Ativ. It will be a wild competition for Windows Phone devices soon but as usual, the hype for Windows Phone devices are always more quiet than other Android devices or iPhone. The reason to that will remain a mystery. Maybe it is because the market for Windows Phone is smaller comparatively so they did not put so much into marketing. Sigh.
Anyway, the Nokia Lumia 920 and 820 will be coming soon to please you. In our opinion, both are great phones with the 920 being the flagship and 820 more like a sidekick. But we think 820 is the better looking one here. But flagship Lumia 920 comes with 4.5″ PureMotion HD+ display that pushes 1280×768 pixels resolution, dual-core 1.5GHz Qualcomm S4 processor, 1GB of RAM and a generous 32GB of storage. One of its key highlight is the 8.7MP PureView Camera which comes with floating lens image stabiliser. Meanwhile, the smaller Lumia 820 is a mid-spec device with a 4.3″ display that pushes 800×480 pixels, dual-core 1.5GHz Qualcomm S4 processor, 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage which is expandable with microSD.
The Nokia Lumia 610, a very capable smartphone running Windows Phone OS. Always being shadowed by it’s more powerful sibling, the Nokia Lumia 710, the Lumia 610 does not lack in any case. We think that Lumia 610 is a very good smartphone given the cheap pricetag. And what is more amazing is the fact that the device is just priced at RM699 now. That is an awesome price for a device like this.
It is true that Windows Phone does not stand out when it comes down to the number of apps but the OS is as powerful as any major mobile OS out there today. Simple and intuitive. So if you are planning to get a new smartphone and cash is not your best friend in the moment, the Nokia Lumia 610 is your new best friend.
-256MB of RAM
-8GB of internal storage
-3.7″ WVGA display
-5MP shooter with assisted LED flash

*You might want to look out for other good budget smartphones like the HTC One V, Samsung Galaxy W, Sony Xperia U or Apple iPhone 3GS.
Ok, not that the Samsung Galaxy SIII is unveiled, we this it is the best time to do a comparison with other flagship smartphones like the Apple iPhone 4S, HTC One X and the Nokia Lumia 900. This might let you see things clearer between these mighty smartphones. You judge for yourself. But specs does not really show the whole picture of a smartphone. But as far as we know/think/assume, the Samsung Galaxy SIII is a hell of a user-friendly phone.
