Tim Cook and company rocked today’s keynote. As expected, the iPhone 5s was announced with a new processor, fingerprint sensor and motion chip alongside the new cost-conscious and brightly-colored iPhone 5c.

Craig Frederhigi spent some time on Jony Ive’s upcoming iOS 7, running through the main features, most of which we’d heard back at WWDC in June, including Control Center, Search anywhere, more textured ringtones and the like.

The two new models of iPhone were the focus of today’s event. CEO Tim Cook said that the iPhone business was getting so big they decided to replace the iPhone 5 with two new models. The iPhone 5c looks to aim directly at kids and perhaps budget-conscious consumers with bright colors and the ability to purchase contrasting soft rubber cases. The iPhone 5s is a tour-de-force of new technology, including the much-anticipated fingerprint sensor, Touch ID, and the new A7 and M7 chips.

The keynote was even more densely packed with info, of course, so we’ve broken everything down into tasty, bite-size nuggets of information so you can get essentials of what happened today without having to read 30,000,000 different blog posts.

Here’s everything that Apple announced at today’s keynote:

Digi iPhone 5 plans revealed, priced from RM2012

ScreenShot010

Shortly after Maxis revealed their iPhone 5 plans, Digi have also revealed theirs and similarly, its not much difference from the iPhone 4S plans when 4S is first introduced. Which is in a way good. With Digi iPhone plans, we have iDigi 88, iDigi 138 and iDigi 238 which requires monthly commitment of RM60, RM93 and RM161 respectively. The monthly commitment is cheaper than Maxis but for all the iDigi plans, the iPhone 5 price starts at RM2012. But overall, the total ownership cost will be slightly cheaper for Digi. We will have a comparison chart out soon after Celcom release their plans for iPhone 5.

This is how the iDigi plans look like.

iPad Mini to be announced on 17th October 2012. [Rumor]

According to a report from Fortune, which cited a “major Apple investor,” Apple is apparently preparing to launch the much-rumoured iPad mini with invitations expected to go out Oct. 10:

According to our source, who asked not be named, there appears to be some truth to the widespread rumors that Apple is preparing to launch a smaller and cheaper version of the iPad — often called the iPad mini or iPad air and usually described as having a 7.85-inch screen… What our source adds is the specificity of a date: The press, he says, can expect invitations to go out on Oct. 10.

Author of the post, Fortune’s Philip Elmer-DeWitt, is well connected with AAPL analysts and big traders, and the report noted the invitation rumor is coming from multiple reliable sources. If there is any truth to the rumor, it could line up nicely with an Oct. 17 unveiling and possibly an early November launch around  Nov. 2.

The device is expected to sport a roughly 7.85-inch display, thinner bezel, and iPod-like thickness, but whether Apple will hit the sub $299 price point is up for debate. Just under Rm1000. Looks good for anyone looking for a budget tablet.
